# How to use "Customize Pivot"?

#### **Function Introduction**

Customizing the coordinate origin allows users to manually adjust the model's pivot position, enabling transformation operations such as rotation and scaling to be performed from a reference point that better aligns with the design intent. For example, moving the pivot of a door to the hinge allows for a natural opening and closing effect when rotating.

#### **Function Entry**

After selecting a model, you can enter through the following two methods:

* Right parameter bar → 「Edit Pivot」 button
* Right-click menu → 「Edit Pivot」
* *This feature is **unavailable** (button grayed out) when multiple objects are selected.*

#### **Adjustment Method**

* **Drag**: Directly drag the pivot ball in the scene, supporting automatic adsorption to the object surface
* **Precise Input:** Enter X / Y / Z coordinates and rotation angles in the right panel
* **Feature point snapping:** Key points such as the bounding box center and centroid will highlight and trigger auto-snapping when the cursor is nearby.

> All operations support **Ctrl+Z** undo

#### **Save and Exit**

* Click "Done" or press Enter: Save and exit
* Press Esc: Cancel, axis returns to its original position
* Right-click on the blank area: Save and Exit
* Switch to other tools: Automatically save and exit

#### **Reset Origin**

* Right parameter bar → 「Reset Pivot」

#### **Group and Hierarchy**

* You can set a Customize Pivot on a group itself. Group a double door, move the group’s pivot to the hinge, and the whole group swings open naturally when rotated.
* Modifying a group’s pivot does not affect the individual pivots of the sub-objects within that group.
* When you ungroup, the coordinate data at the group level clears, but each sub-object keeps the pivot you set for it.

#### **Precautions**

* **Keyframe data**: Modifying the pivot of a model with keyframes will reset its keyframe data. A confirmation pop-up will appear; selecting "**Continue"** will clear keyframes and enter edit mode, while selecting "**Cancel"** will discard any changes.
* **Copy inheritance**: Models created via `Ctrl+D`, `Alt+D`, `Shift` will automatically inherit the custom pivot of the source model.
* **Asset replacement**: Replacing a model from the Asset Library will not inherit the old pivot; it will use the default pivot of the new asset .
* **Export**: When saving as a `.d5a` file or adding it to the Local Library, Custom Pivot information is saved. The Pivot will remain consistent when the asset is opened in other scenes.
